Jaded B*tch

Everybody who is surprised by this raise your hand? …………………………Still looking.

Yesterday we were all sadden to learn that Heroes was canceled.  This is a link to a friend and mutual Heroes fan’s blog with a rant on the cancellation.

Deep inside our hearts, I think we all knew it was inevitable.  We are loyal, devoted fans but unfortunately, the bottom line is business.  Declining ratings mean declining advertising dollars and sponsors.  I understand that they must look out for their financial interests; after all, it is corporate and they have to show a profit to their stockholders.

But, I still question the current NBC management for the loyalty to their programming.  There have been so many times when I started watching new programming on their channel and loving it.  Then it is suddenly canceled. Poof….gone….no endings, no resolutions to story lines.  If the show is not getting the ratings, I sometimes question why they don’t try good programming in other time slots to try to bolster them. Just look at Heroes, they had them competing with power house shows like House and 24. But the sad fact is, that many of the Heroes fans were also huge fans of these shows and usually opted to view Heroes by either DVR’ing it or streaming it online. Had it been in another time slot……maybe it would have gotten the ratings.  Who knows, we didn’t get the chance.

It’s funny, I did not become a fan of Heroes, Lost, FlashForward, or Jericho (remember this one) when they first arrived on television.  I finally began streaming them at a later time.  Only then did I start watching them on a weekly basis.  I’ve got to admit, I have become very reluctant to invest my time into open ended programs until I see that they have become somewhat established programs. But, I believe the days of open ended programming is fading away.

Back to Heroes…… I want to thank the cast, the crew, and the fans for such an amazing experience.  Many of them are active on Twitter and have become a part of my life as friends or acquaintances.  Please take a minute to read Nathalie’s blog.  In addition, this is a comment that I posted there and it truly sums up my feelings.

“Nathalie, you summed up my feelings in your blog. What a sad, sad day for all of us Heroes fans. I came into the show late after catching up on Season 1 and part of Season 2 on Netflix. But I was hooked. Then I joined Twitter. In looking for people to follow, one of my first was Grunny (Greg Grunberg)who introduced us to many of the cast and crew who also joined Twitter.

Through them, they made the show much more personal for myself and many of the fans on Twitter. They became friends and a part of our lives. In turn, they allowed us to befriend so many people like yourself and so many others.

As sad as I am about the shows demise, I will always cherish these memories. I’m looking forward to continuing all these relationships that have been formed through this experience. I can’t wait to support the cast and crew on all of their future projects.

I have to agree with the quote from Dr. Suess that Wendi Lynn posted on Twitter last night: “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.”

Thank you all for making me smile!!!!!
